Los Angeles, home to the stars, sunshine and palm trees, is awash with picture-perfect spots and relaxing places to help you escape the hustle and bustle of the city. And we also mustn’t forget that the iconic romantic comedy Pretty Woman was filmed across LA (including the incredible Rodeo Drive), making this a fantastic place to travel to at least once in your life.

Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles

Whether you decide to visit the seaside and dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean at Manhattan Beach, ride funfairs like kids in Santa Monica or just rest your feet in various parks, there are plenty of places where you can relax and just enjoy the sunshine.

Beverly Canon Gardens – A Piece of the South of France near Rodeo Drive

Right up there with all of these things to do (and very conveniently located near to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills) is Beverly Canon Gardens. Here, you will feel like you’ve instantly been transported to somewhere like the south of France.

The buildings surrounding the garden (although mostly bars, cafes and restaurants) are absolutely stunning to look at. Sand coloured buildings, intricate archways, idyllic shrubbery and a large water fountain all adorn this area. And when you combine this with sunshine and blue skies, you will definitely feel like you can just close your eyes and chase your worries away.

As this garden caters to those who want to put their feet up after a hard morning’s shopping in designer boutiques, or to those who want to grab a quick bite to eat on their working lunch; there are plenty of small tables and chairs for you to choose from. If you’re a sunshine hogger, you can perch yourself in the sunniest of spots near to the water fountain. Or if your skin prefers the cool, then there are also plenty of chairs under the shade of the orange trees.

Sweet Beverly – A French Inspired Bistro

Whilst you’re here, I’d highly recommend scouting out Sweet Beverly, which is a French-inspired bistro serving coffee and crêpes. They also sell their own homemade lemonade, which is refreshingly delicious on warm summer days! And the prices aren’t too bad either (given you’re just inches away from Rodeo Drive); with a couple of drinks setting you back about $7.

A Final Word

I love city breaks! Although LA is further out than your usual city break (especially if you’re living on the East Coast or in Europe), I think it makes for a great location for a layover on your way to somewhere like Hawaii. Right up there with it as well is San Francisco – another charming North American city and also perfect for a layover stop. Even in cities, you can still escape the hustle and bustle and find your own little piece of travel magic – in our case, finding a piece of the south of France right next to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles!

What do you think? Is this the place to come to during your shopping breaks? Let me know what you think in the comments below…

The cobbled streets of Rodeo Drive are lined with designer shops and full of luxury cars 🙂 . The buildings surrounding the garden are really nice to look at. Of course they are although mostly bars, cafes and restaurants… where prices are a bit to expensive…

    1. You’re right that it can be very expensive in Rodeo Drive. Aside from these lemonades, we were merely window shopping. But it was really cool to look at (and wish for) the kinds of lifestyles some people do have in LA… another world entirely!
