Welcome to the Northern Ireland edition of my UK Photo Essays series!
Northern Ireland is an incredible place to visit should you ever get the chance. Although still part of the United Kingdom, us Southern Englanders like to think of it as a slightly more exotic part of the country. I suspect this is mainly due to it being overseas, but still – well worth a visit!
Northern Ireland is home to the legendary Giant’s Causeway, which really shouldn’t need any introduction. Alongside that, there is ample countryside to explore – think endless green landscapes, beautiful (and sometimes stormy) seas and pretty flowers. There’s a reason why it’s referred to as the ‘Emerald Isle’!
Some other recommendations would be to see the Dark Hedges (not too far South from Giant’s Causeway). This is a long row of trees that have become twisted and entangled to form an ominous tree tunnel. I’d also recommend heading to Carrick-a-Rede, where you can walk across an old rope bridge – great for the little bit of adrenaline junkie in you!
And if you’re feeling really ‘wanderlusty’, it’s really simple to drive and cross the border into the Republic of Ireland to see Dublin, the Wicklow Mountains and Powerscourt Estate (among other incredible places).
However you decide to spend your time in Northern Ireland, I can promise you will love it! But if you’re still not convinced, these 11 photos should totally inspire wanderlust for Northern Ireland!
