“The best ice cream in California.”
This was the accolade our coach driver gave Lappert’s Ice Cream in Sausalito just across the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco.
And as a purveyor of puddings, I had to find out just how true this was. So off we went to hunt down this infamous ice cream…
A short walk and $14 later found us coveting the largest ice cream sandwiches either of us had ever seen. I opted for Blueberry Cheesecake whilst my better half chose the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut flavour.
So, what was the verdict?
It was quite purely heaven in my mouth. Creamy, smooth and oh, so very fruity. This was combined with the crumbly homemade cookies surrounding the ice cream. For approximately 20 minutes, my taste buds were on fire! (And of course, we had to guard our pudding from the many seagulls that started engulfing us. No, thankfully the seagulls did not win this battle).
Once this heavenly 10 minutes was over, it was time to walk back to the coach…or rather, waddle back to the coach complaining that we had eaten too much.
Sausalito may be too far just to go for ice cream, but it’s safe to say that if you ever find yourself in this charming town and you’re a pudding lover, then you should take a trip to Lappert’s. You won’t regret it! Maybe you could even combine a visit to Sausalito with a trip to Muir Woods like we did?
In case you find yourself with longer to spend discovering the wonders of Sausalito than we did, here is a copy of a visitor map in all its cartoon glory ready for you to download.
